The Andrew Brownsword Gallery at the University of Bath announces its inaugural Art Prize, awarded for submissions that reflect, represent, capture or depict modern day scientific phenomena as studied by academics at The University’s Faculty of Science.

Shortlisted entries will be exhibited in the Andrew Brownsword Gallery between 15 September and 13 October, with the winning selections announced at a special ceremony in October.

All artists are eligible to enter, whether amateur, student, graduate or professional. Painting, drawing, sculpture, film, mixed media, photography and all forms of contemporary visual arts will be considered. Submissions with a site-specific or performance element are also eligible, provided arrangements for exhibiting can be made.

Our year-round programme of exhibitions, performing arts presentations, talks, arts classes, family and community events, provide experiences of educational, emotional and intellectual stimulus, all based around our ethos of bringing together arts, research and adventure. Our focus is on participatory programmes and our belief is that everyone can be creative and contribute.

The Andrew Brownsword Gallery at The Edge, Bath, is looking for proposals from artists who have an idea for a piece of work which requires input from the University of Bath’s Faculty of Science. The bursaries are open to all artists from amateur, to student, graduate or professional and proposed artworks can be in any medium.

There are a maximum of 8 bursaries available of up to £1000 each, to use to create a piece of work over the summer to be exhibited in the Visions of Science exhibition in the autumn, 15 September – 13 October.

Proposed works must outline which science department or area of research the artists wishes to work with, reflect on, capture or utilise within their project. Interested artists can find out more about the departments within the Faculty of Science below:

Head of Programme/Exhibitions Curator - RWA

The RWA is seeking an outstanding individual to replace Gemma Brace as Head of Programme/Exhibitions Curator, following her recent appointment at the University of Bristol. 

The Head of Programme will lead the programme team to devise and deliver a distinctive and coherent artistic and learning programme that is international in scope and simultaneously engages with the remarkable history and cultural vibrancy of the RWA and the south west region.

As Exhibitions Curator, the post-holder will work with our Academicians, external curators, museums and galleries and private collectors in the delivery of a programme of first-class exhibitions, encompassing both contemporary and historic visual art.

Leading a team of highly professional and dedicated staff - the Learning and Participation Manager, Drawing School Manager and Curatorial Technician - the Head of Programme will oversee the development of the RWA’s ongoing vision and strategy for exhibitions, learning and outreach activities, including the RWA Drawing School. 

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the post-holder will also work with the Director to develop the strategy and delivery of the RWA’s artistic and learning programme in line with the Business Plan – with specific focus on generating increased and sustainable audience relationships and world class artistic activity.

Working within the remit of the RWA’s artistic vision, the Digital Marketing Manager will be responsible for the strategic marketing of the RWA across all digital platforms.

An unusual and exceptional opportunity assisting the director of an arts organization and father of two young children - with your own studio cottage in a magical mountain setting. Your time will be split between helping to contribute to an exciting and fast growing arts venue and an organizational role in the home and helping with the development of two happy, energetic young children (a boy 8, and a girl 5) who are both at school. 

The successful applicant will have a strong educational background and be able to demonstrate an interest in arts events. Events, web, or video experience would be an advantage. You will also be highly organized and practical as well as being independent, and outgoing and have experience of and enjoy looking after children. We live in a house at the top of a valley in the Black Mountains (the studio cottage is a few hundred meters away) so it is essential that you have a car, a full driving license, and a genuine love of the countryside. The house is only ten minutes from the famous book town of Hay, and an hour and a half from Bristol.

Open Call for Commissions - Feel It Festival

One in five GPs currently experience some form of anxiety or depression and researchers at the University of Bristol want to know why.

You are invited to create a new high-quality collaborative work that explores, examines and captures research in this area.

We are offering up to £3000 plus a performance or screening slot (as appropriate) at the festival, which runs from 17th - 20th November 2016 at Circomedia.

Plymouth College of Art is seeking applications for exhibition proposals from contemporary visual artists based in the South West Region.

Two artists will be selected for short solo exhibitions in The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art between Jan-March 2017. Artists will be awarded £2000 to produce their exhibition, with additional support from the college – including production, marketing/press, equipment, an exhibition launch and key interpretation materials.

The South West, as defined by Arts Council England, includes: Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly, Isle of Wight, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, South Gloucestershire, Southampton, Swindon, Torbay and Wiltshire.

The South West Showcase is a recurring open call platform, showcasing artists from across the South West region. The showcase aims to uncover and celebrate the talent of contemporary artists working and living in the South West and to present a long-term commitment from Plymouth College of Art to profiling and supporting the practices of artists in this region.  Artists previously supported through this project include Hannah James, Bryony Gillard, Abigail Reynolds, Kit Poulson and Marie Toesland.
