Head of Programme/Exhibitions Curator - RWA


Full time 

Pay: £30,000 p.a.

The RWA is seeking an outstanding individual to replace Gemma Brace as Head of Programme/Exhibitions Curator, following her recent appointment at the University of Bristol. 
The Head of Programme will lead the programme team to devise and deliver a distinctive and coherent artistic and learning programme that is international in scope and simultaneously engages with the remarkable history and cultural vibrancy of the RWA and the south west region.
As Exhibitions Curator, the post-holder will work with our Academicians, external curators, museums and galleries and private collectors in the delivery of a programme of first-class exhibitions, encompassing both contemporary and historic visual art.
Leading a team of highly professional and dedicated staff - the Learning and Participation Manager, Drawing School Manager and Curatorial Technician - the Head of Programme will oversee the development of the RWA’s ongoing vision and strategy for exhibitions, learning and outreach activities, including the RWA Drawing School. 
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the post-holder will also work with the Director to develop the strategy and delivery of the RWA’s artistic and learning programme in line with the Business Plan – with specific focus on generating increased and sustainable audience relationships and world class artistic activity.

Digital Marketing Manager - RWA


Pay: 24,400 pro rata
Part time: 19 hours per week
Deadline: noon, 31st July 2017 

Working within the remit of the RWA’s artistic vision, the Digital Marketing Manager will be responsible for the strategic marketing of the RWA across all digital platforms.
Responsibility includes planning, managing and delivering the digital marketing strategy for the organisation, and to work with the Marketing Manager to consolidate the RWA’s position as one of the key galleries in the region, and towards a stable and highly visible future. In addition, the Digital Marketing Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining the RWA’s profile through creative use of its own, recently redeveloped website and of social media, encouraging new audiences, deepening media relations, consolidating networks and reaching revenue targets through e-commerce, including overseeing the implementation of Shopify.

The RWA are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist within various areas of the gallery during our upcoming exhibitions, 'Into The Fields' and Peter Randall-Page RWA & Kate MccGuire' between the 20th June – 10th September 2015

Throughout the exhibitions we have opportunities to get involved as a Volunteer Steward, to assist our Technicians with exhibition changeovers, helping out with family and educational activities, writing, marketing, admin and volunteering for events.

Volunteer Steward Opportunity - Royal West of England Academy

The Royal West of England Academy is now recruiting for Volunteer Stewards for our upcoming exhibition season Back from the Front (which includes Shock & Awe: Contemporary Artists at War & Peace and Brothers in Art: Paul & John Nash)

We are looking for enthusiastic Volunteers to become a part of our welcome team, who are responsible for helping us to provide an outstanding visitor experience. You will need to be warm and welcoming and happy to chat to people whilst stewarding.

Stewards are also given opportunities to help with events, such as Private Views, helping Technicians with exhibition changeovers and occasionally, educational & family activaties.

Ideally we are looking for people who are able to commit to around 4 hours per week between July and September (and further into the future if you wish to continue!)

4x Volunteer Stewards needed at the RWA

There’s nothing like a welcoming smile and that little bit of extra information that you didn’t know before to make a visit much more enjoyable.
The Royal West of England Academy requires 4 extra Volunteer Stewards for its upcoming Exhibition, The Power of The Sea.
As a Volunteer Steward you are a vital part in helping the RWA to provide great
customer service and a warm and welcoming visit.
Volunteers will be expected to commit to at least 4 hours on a regular basis between April-July 2014. We are most in need of Volunteers to help us on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
This is a great way to meet people, share your passion for art and enjoy the surroundings of the RWA.

Drop-in Open Studio - Opportunity to meet professional illustrators

A drop-in open studio for you to come and meet professional illustrators at work, ask their advice and have a go at drawing yourself.
Professional and published illustrator Lauren Tobia (http://www.laurentobia.com and Brillustration www.brillustrationbristol.blogspot.co.uk) will be hosting professional illustrators who will be showing their work and demonstrating how they work. Lauren will also be working on a collaborative illustration throughout the day and inviting visitors to join in and add their drawings. Fun suitable for all ages!

Poetry Competition

Likenessesattempts to bridge the gap between person and portrait, capturing intimate, stolen moments. Aronson has created images 'directly stencilled off the real' as Susan Sontag writes in 'On Photography'.
This is an open competition, run by Bristol Poetry Institute. Poems can take as their theme one of the exhibits in theLikenessesshow, or be a response to an existing published photograph of a poet or other literary figure (as long as the image can be submitted alongside the poem).
Poems should be sent directly to Sam Thomas at Bristol University: st1642@bristol.ac.uk
They will be forwarded anonymously to the three judges (William Wooten, David Punter and Rachael Boast).
The competition is open from February 8 and the deadline is Friday March 14.
The winner and runner up will receive a cash prize of £50 and £30 respectively,and a copy of the bookLikenesses.
An award ceremony will take place in the gallery on the penultimate day of the show, Wednesday March 19th, 6.30-7.30pm.

Photography tutorials at Royal West of England Academy

To coincide with our season of portraiture and identity themed exhibitions - February to March 2014, the RWA has invited professional photographer Stephen Morris to deliver intensive, short tutorials in photographic portraiture. Each tutorial of 90 minutes will focus on the practical details of a fine portrait: rapport with the subject, observing and capturing mood and the use of light and background. Participants will learn how to transform a snapshot into an enduring likeness.
