Artists and artist groups of Bristol and beyond: Feel It festival is looking to commission a new performance piece or screen work and applications are now open.

One in five GPs currently experience some form of anxiety or depression and researchers at the University of Bristol want to know why.

You are invited to create a new high-quality collaborative work that explores, examines and captures research in this area.

We are offering up to £3000 plus a performance or screening slot (as appropriate) at the festival, which runs from 17th - 20th November 2016 at Circomedia.

Southwest Showcase Open Call - Plymouth College of Art

Plymouth College of Art is seeking applications for exhibition proposals from contemporary visual artists based in the South West Region.

Two artists will be selected for short solo exhibitions in The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art between Jan-March 2017. Artists will be awarded £2000 to produce their exhibition, with additional support from the college – including production, marketing/press, equipment, an exhibition launch and key interpretation materials.

The South West, as defined by Arts Council England, includes: Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly, Isle of Wight, North Somerset, Plymouth, Poole, Portsmouth, South Gloucestershire, Southampton, Swindon, Torbay and Wiltshire.

The South West Showcase is a recurring open call platform, showcasing artists from across the South West region. The showcase aims to uncover and celebrate the talent of contemporary artists working and living in the South West and to present a long-term commitment from Plymouth College of Art to profiling and supporting the practices of artists in this region.  Artists previously supported through this project include Hannah James, Bryony Gillard, Abigail Reynolds, Kit Poulson and Marie Toesland.

Utopia Dystopia is an ambitious series of exhibitions and events planned for the city of Bath during 2016. This creative initiative is inspired by the 500th anniversary of the publication of Utopia, Thomas More's reflections on the idea of an ideal society. Since 1516, the year of Utopia's release, the world has witnessed countless attempts to establish a perfectly ordered community, in reality as well as in print. Yet the frequent outcome of such ambitions has been the decay of Utopia into Dystopia. From no-place to bad-place. In modern times the two concepts seem inseparable. FaB16 is inviting artists in all media to particiate in a series of imaginative responses to the themes of utopia or dystopia, or both. The FaB projects are being complemented, or supported, by events involving other Bath-based cultural organisations, including Bath Fringe, Bath Spa University, the Holburne Museum and Komedia. The key exhibition and performance venue is Walcot Chapel during FaB16 (27th May - 12th June), for several decades one of Bath's most popular locations for contemporary art. Artworks of all kinds are invited for submission, whether image, object or sound, moving or still, interior or exterior. We are also keen to recieve submissions from artists interested in transforming the space, initiating live events, performances or workshops. During 2016 the Somerset & Dorset Railway Trust will mark the 50th anniversary of closure of the Somerset & Dorset (S&D) Railway in March 1966 after 112 years of service. We will commemorate this much loved and lamented railway with a programme of events at sites associated with the S&D and at our own base at Washford station on the West Somerset Railway. A travelling exhibition and associated activities will visit communities along the routes of this iconic railway from Bath to Burnham-on-Sea, Wells and Bridgwater in Somerset, and to Poole, Bournemouth and Wimborne in Dorset. 

The project will help keep alive the spirit, history and heritage of the railway as a major cross country rail route, its importance to the communities through which it passed, and the social impact of its closure. Working in partnership with councils, museums, libraries, heritage railways and other groups we will engage with local communities through a range of interpretative materials, outdoor arts, activities and presentations. 

The project is supported by an Our Heritage grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). 

The Trust requires an experienced outdoor artist (or artists) to design, create and deliver a dramatic, bold and imaginative interpretation of events surrounding the closure of the S&D in 1966. The interpretation is to take place at a number of outdoor locations to coincide with the travelling exhibition and other events between March and October 2016.

This job is not for the feint-hearted and requires individuals with rapier wit, amazing improv skills, boundless energy, a great sense of humour, empathy and sarcasm in equal measure, the ability to organise and engage large crowds and of course some sweet dance moves are always a bonus!

If you can picture yourself in a boxing-ring, with a microphone, surrounded by thousands of people, hosting and facilitating our interactive spectacular, then we want to hear from you!

Or are you part of a high-energy act? Can you bust some jaw-dropping moves? Are you a human marvel?

Dear Bristol Arts Community,

 I'm writing from SouthBank Club on Dean Lane in Southville. For the last seven years Jess Newton has taken over the premises and turned it into a beautiful space with a main bar and stage, cinema room, dance studio, big garden and conference style/art gallery. Some of you probably know this venue for the array of events that have already happened here but now we want to take it to the next stage. Therefore we are calling out to artists, musicians, photographers, dancers, theatre performers, circus folk and independent promoters to bring this club alive. Being in one of the most creative cities in the world we really want to see this place flourish and be an all encompassing venue for the Bristol community. So if you're interested in getting involved in whatever capacity, whether putting on gigs, cinema nights, children's workshops, general meet up groups, art and photography exhibitions and anything else you may have in mind please get in contact. If we as a community can turn the SouthBank Club into a creative hub for the people of Bristol we can all be proud to have been a part of it and will all have a place to come and meet like minded people.

Mayfest and Theatre Bristol - Performance Piece Commission (£5000 fee)

Mayfest and Theatre Bristol would like to co-commission a new performance piece for showcase in the 2016 festival programme.

Our invitation

We’re inviting artists and companies to propose ambitious performance projects that you really believe in. We want you to inspire us. This is an opportunity to collaborate with a producing team to create an extraordinary experience for festival audiences, and potentially beyond.

What are we offering?

• Producer advice/creative feedback during development and realisation.

Could you become a night creature? We’re looking for 20 mischievous volunteers for IBT15 event The Storm.
IBT15 Bristol International Festival seek 20 fun-loving and mischievous volunteers to take part in a costumed group-performance for art-club event The Storm. No previous performance experience necessary – everyone welcome!

 The Creatures 

You will work with commissioned artist, Lily Johnson. Lily creates strange animal-like figures who lurk in the shadows and hide in dark corners. You will wear quirky costumes and appear ominously at set times, led by Lily herself.
This is a strange, fun and unique opportunity to play your part in a huge art event. The Storm sees the Old Bridewell Police and Fire Station complex transformed into an emergency storm shelter for the night. A hail of international artists and DJs invoke a storm in the club using  choreographed light, sound and special effects.

Times & Places

To take part, you will need to be available as follows:
Dress Rehearsal: 4 pm – 5 pm, Sat 14 Feb
Performance: 10 pm – 3 am Sat 14 Feb (short performances every hour)
All creatures receive a free ticket for The Storm, and will be able to enjoy the party between performance slots. Rehearsals and performances take place at the BRIDEWELL COMPLEX (The network of buildings on The Corner of Nelson St, and Silver St.)

You'll be recreating and wearing the classic Cultist costumes circa 2K12, for performances at upcoming shows including SPILL Festival of Performance, Bristol Biennial and Saatchi Gallery in the UK (September/October) as well as Gallery Joey Ramone as part of International Film Festival Rotterdam (December/January). 

You will be required to learn loosely synchronised chants and body motions to be enacted during the ritual performances. There will be a number of costume preperation and rehearsal sessions leading up to the scheduled shows, the dates of the sessions will be flexible based on availability of participants.

The Cult is constantly expanding and evolving. The requirements for the upcoming shows are specific, defined roles. All 10 performers taking part will have the opportunity to work with the Cult in future performances. The Cult have an extensive history of involvement in large scale exhibitions and events across Europe —including performances and screenings at Modern Art Oxford (Open File 4, Sounding, in conjunction with Barbara Kruger exhibition),  the Barbican Centre London (Hack the Barbican 2K13), and New Art Gallery Walsall (The Hecklers, in conjunction withDamien Hirst exhibition). 2014/15 will see the Cult return to International Film Festival Rotterdam for a second time.

Open Call for Bristol Biennial

The Bristol Biennial is building new foundations as an interactive contemporary Arts Festival. The Bristol Biennial is intended as a collaborative project between institutions, groups, associations and individual practitioners within the creative arts sector. Its objective is to create an interactive and international platform to raise the profile of Bristol based emerging artists. By instigating and promoting new collaboration and discussion through an international network, local artists can gain access to new artistic territory.

The theme for 2014, Crossing the Line,gathers a crowd of meaning, to encourage an exchange of ideas, bringing out the best of innovative and interactive work. Using a dynamic programme of spaces and locations in Bristol, artists are asked to consider: place and space, international exchange and the relationship between artist and audience.

The programme is open to proposals from artists working with: Live Art, Performance Art, Music, Visual Arts, Video, Sculpture, Drawing, Animation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The Bristol Biennial will take place in various locations in and around the city. The Biennial team will match selected projects to locations, which include re-appropriated existing space, disused sites, creative buildings and public spaces. Artists are also encouraged to suggest locations.

The Festival is presented over 9 days from the 12th-21st of September 2014.

The Open Call runs from the 14th October to the 2nd January 2014.

Successful artist and art group applications will be notified during the first week of December.

Funding

Subject to funding necessary production costs will be provided.

Call for Submissions : Small Story/Big City, Rich Mix

Throughout 2014, Rich Mix is looking for new/emerging performers and companies to come and tell their stories of city life, so we can present just some of these small tales that contribute to the rich tapestry of the big city.
Your stories will be funny, poignant, hidden, silly and sad. They’re likely to be tiny, they’re personal, but they – somehow – are essential. Without them the city becomes that little bit smaller.
In order for your work to be considered, you must have been working in live performance for 4 years or less. Work must be no longer than 90 minutes (excluding interval), however we will consider shorter works to be presented as part of a double or triple bill. Those with work in development or new writing are also encouraged to apply - we are happy to hear from those with work at the very early stages of development, as well as those with completed works.
If your work is chosen, you will benefit from:

• Inclusion in Rich Mix’s main artistic programme
• Ticket sale income on a box office split basis
• Inclusion in Rich Mix marketing materials
