In uncertain economic times, artists must make strategic decisions about what to do next.

These one-to-one professional development mentoring sessions
will equip students, graduates and emerging artists with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the unique challenges we face.

The three mentors draw on their practices as artists, curators,
writers and educators to offer critical professional development opportunities.

To play the roles of part animal/part human characters for a new work by Alexander Stevenson in the Bristol Biennial on the 13 and 14 September 2014.

The performances will be generated collaboratively between the performers and the artist, to take place on the Bristol Suspension bridge and in the landscape below.

Applicants must be available to come to audition in Bristol on the 7 August, attend 3 rehearsals in the weeks leading up to the Biennial (dates tbc), and perform 4-4.30pm on the 13 and 14 September.

There is a fee of £200 available to each performer, and must include all costs incurred.

Volunteers Needed for Bristol Biennial

Bristol Biennial Volunteer Application

Bristol Biennial seek enthusiastic volunteers to become part of our stewarding team. The role will involve looking after artworks and engaging the public with information about our events and happenings that emerge over the city between 12-21 September 2014.

Bristol Biennial is an Artist-led Festival of Visual Art. We are joining the dots between artists and audiences in the city through exciting, participatory artworks. Volunteers are vital to the success of this emerging arts festival, and by becoming part of our stewarding team we will create a team of highly-engaged hands-on individuals. This role offers access and opportunities to see and experience the festival at close quarters, engage with the programmed artists, meet new people, develop your networks and become a valued part of our team.


What we are looking for…Are you right for the role?


• You are interested and engaged in Bristol’s visual arts scene.
• You are looking to gain experience in arts and events management.
• You have an approachable and friendly attitude.
• You have confidence in interacting with the public.
• You have some knowledge of the areas of Bristol.

Important information:

To apply for this role you must be available for at least 3 days during the festival as well as for two half-day training sessions on the afternoon of the 2 & 6 of September 2014.

Open Call for Bristol Biennial

The Bristol Biennial is building new foundations as an interactive contemporary Arts Festival. The Bristol Biennial is intended as a collaborative project between institutions, groups, associations and individual practitioners within the creative arts sector. Its objective is to create an interactive and international platform to raise the profile of Bristol based emerging artists. By instigating and promoting new collaboration and discussion through an international network, local artists can gain access to new artistic territory.

The theme for 2014, Crossing the Line,gathers a crowd of meaning, to encourage an exchange of ideas, bringing out the best of innovative and interactive work. Using a dynamic programme of spaces and locations in Bristol, artists are asked to consider: place and space, international exchange and the relationship between artist and audience.

The programme is open to proposals from artists working with: Live Art, Performance Art, Music, Visual Arts, Video, Sculpture, Drawing, Animation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The Bristol Biennial will take place in various locations in and around the city. The Biennial team will match selected projects to locations, which include re-appropriated existing space, disused sites, creative buildings and public spaces. Artists are also encouraged to suggest locations.

The Festival is presented over 9 days from the 12th-21st of September 2014.

The Open Call runs from the 14th October to the 2nd January 2014.

Successful artist and art group applications will be notified during the first week of December.

Funding

Subject to funding necessary production costs will be provided.
