Out of the Woodwork are looking for cabinet makers/joiners to help out with some exciting projects that we have on at the moment and some up coming projects. 

A couple of important things:

 1. You must be self employed or be willing to register as self employed. 
2. You must have relevant experience in a professional workshop using all machinery and ideally some site experience. 
3. Be prepared to work on site with your own safety boots. 
4. You must be able to work from dimensioned drawings and be able to work on your own or as part of a team. 
5. Be able to use your own initiative and work in a pro active manner. 
6. You must be able to travel to our workshop in Bedminster or travel to site in various parts of Bristol.

Victorian Christmas at Blaise House - Volunteers needed.

Bristol Museum Volunteers have a lovely Victorian Christmas day planned at Blaise next weekend and they could do with a few more pairs of hands, primarily to help run the craft activities (they will be led by a freelancer), and some general setting up and packing down.

The events team for the Ice Rink Christmas Market are organising four weekends of Christmas markets, to take place around the Ice Rink in Millennium Square, that is being hosted by At-Bristol and are currently looking for stallholders for the markets.

The markets are being held on Friday evenings (5pm-9pm), Saturdays (10am-8pm) and Sundays (10am-8pm), between 28th November and 21st December.

Stall holders are welcome to book for a single or multiple days, and we are offering discounts for full weekend bookings, and multiple weekend bookings.

Call out for Local Artists/Creatives - Trinity Winter Art Market

Join us for our annual Winter Art Market!

Trinity Community Arts are inviting artists to join in our festive Winter Art Market taking place between 11am – 5pm on Saturday 6th December 2014 at the Trinity Centre.

Situated in our iconic Main Hall, Fyfe Hall and Graffiti Room, and only a 10 minute walk from the city centre, Trinity will be playing host to all things creative, providing opportunities for local artists to exhibit and sell their work to the public. This year, we have expanded our market to include an entire room dedicated to artisan food and edible gifts.

With a range of activities including live acoustic music, mulled wine and cider as well as mince pies, cake and hot food to get everyone in the festive spirit! We are expecting a wide range of artists, crafts, makers and styles. The more the merrier!

Having recently undergone a refurbishment at our pub,The Old Fish Market, we are looking to promote our Christmas menu this year by holding a Christmas market inside the pub itself on the 7th of November! 

For this event we would love to have local artists and craft makers come and display and possibly sell some of their work! This exhibit will be free of charge, providing you have contacted and (hopefully!) met beforehand, with our Christmas co-ordinator! 

The day should hopefully be a fun and festive event, and there will be plenty of mulled wine, mulled cider and mince pies provided! Your work does not have to be particularly festive, however little Christmas gifts you may want to promote or sell are very much welcome!

The Art Troupe's Pilot Workshops, Hamilton House

The Art Troupe is a brand new, exciting venture that offers arts workshops by professional, local artists whilst, also promoting their work and skills. With The Art Troupe you have a chance to be taught by a practitioner a skill that is related to their practice as well as having the opportunity to see their work and find out what makes each and every artist so unique in their approach. As an introductory offer each artist will facilitate just one 3 hour pilot workshop, to be held at Hamilton House, for which there will be a nominal charge to attendees of £15 per person. This nominal charge for the pilot workshops is half of the average price for a workshop! Bristol Museum Volunteers - Wallace and Gromit 'Characters from Clay'

Bristol Museum Volunteers  are running a couple of events to coincide with the current Wallace & Gromit from the drawing board exhibition in M Shed and  are looking for a few people to help with the activities on the day;

Wallace and Gromit 'Characters from Clay'

Tuesday 12^th August and Tuesday 26^th August

9.30am – 4.00 pm

Visitors will be given the chance to make their favourite Aardman character from clay with the help of one of their expert model makers –participants can choose from Gromit, Shaun the Sheep or Morph. 

We require 3 volunteers per day that are interested in arts/crafts and could help anyone that needed had with their model, and also to help tidy up after each session.

Breaks will be provided throughout the day.

Key Roles Needed - South Bristol Arts Trail

   South Bristol Arts Trail steering group are looking for new members to fill key roles in order for the Arts Trail to proceed in 2015. These include, chair, vice-chair, brochure design and secretary. They are holding an AGM on Wednesday 17th September 7.00pm-9.00pm in the Osbourne Room at the Southville Centre where they are hoping to fill these key roles. 

   The Arts Trail is organised entirely by volunteers and the more help they have the better the trail can be. 

  The steering group meet on the first Thursday of each month in the cafe at the Southville Centre, from 7.30pm-9.00pm. Anyone is welcome to go along with ideas and suggestions for the Arts Trail. 

Volunteer Stewards and Crafty People Needed at Harbourside Festival

Happy City is taking over the Lloyds Amphitheatre at this year’s Harbourside Festival - one of the UK’s largest public festivals. Over the 19th and 20th July Happy City will create the ‘State of Happiness’ in the amphitheatre area. There'll be loads of local performers, community groups, artists, comedians and many more people promoting their organisations and talents to the people Bristol. 

We need your help. We're looking for a bunch of volunteers to help us run the event.

By volunteering with you, you'll get: refreshments, meeting people and networking,
work experience, letter of thanks or a reference
Dates: Friday the 18th (set up) and over the weekend 19th and 20th July 

Stewards will be scattered around the amphitheatre keeping an eye out for everyone’s safety and enjoyment, giving directions and information about what is going on in the State of Happiness. There is a short training session on Thursday 10 July at 6pm, at the Amphitheatre.

We will also need people to help out with making bunting and flags, and painting signs. You can come and help out at anytime during the day from 9am - 6pm, Monday to Friday at our offices. If you cannot help out as a steward, you can still help with the preparations.

Knowle West Media Centre Maker Residency

“I Will Always Have You” Maker Residency
We are seeking established makers for 3-month residency. The makers will be working on the project “I Will Always Have You”, collaborating with local residents to explore, design and develop a series of small-batch digitally fabricated “objects of desire” inspired by the rich tattoo culture of Knowle West. They will be able to develop their knowledge and practice using digital manufacturing processes such as 3D printers, CNC machines and laser cutters in a mini-digital manufacturing hub at KWMC and through access to the FabLab at the University of the West of England. We are particularly interested in makers with the following experience: -Recognition in a particular craft discipline relevant to the scope and aims of the project; -Experience of digital manufacturing processes; -Socially-engaged practices; -Product development, marketing and sales knowledge; -Interest in developing sustainable enterprises. aspex’s open submission competition for craft and design

Exhibition: 10 October 2014 – 4 January 2015

aspex seeks emerging artists, designers and makers working in all media for its open submission exhibition CRAFT EMERGENCY 2014. This is an international opportunity and we are looking for applications from anyone who considers themselves to be an emerging artist.

A maximum of 15 artists will be selected for a group show, which will open in October 2014. During this exhibition a winner will be chosen to receive the prize of a solo exhibition at aspex in 2016.

This is aspex‘s second CRAFT EMERGENCY. Thomas Appleton was the winner of the inaugural competition in 2013 and he will be having a solo show of his work in the main space at aspex in the Summer of 2015.

Emerging Designer-Makers Award 2014

In 2012, Living Crafts introduced a new feature to encourage fresh, original work from recently qualified Designer Makers. The Emerging Designer-Makers Pavilion was a great success, containing specially selected applicants who were able to exhibit free of charge. We are delighted that Craft&Design Magazine, widely regarded as the voice of the UK craft industry, will once again support the scheme in 2014 and will be featuring the Pavilion in forthcoming issues. Approximately 10 places are available to feature work in a variety of materials including ceramics, glass, textiles, metal, wood and mixed media.

To be eligible to enter:

• You must have completed training or gained a qualification in your chosen field of expertise since May 2011.
• Your product must be designed and made by yourself.
• Your product must have originality and be authentic.

Win a one day interactive workshop run by the Crafts Council

The Craft Council are giving 60 individuals aged 18+ the chance to attend a day-long interactive workshop on how to test ideas for your contemporary crafts business. Topics covered will include:

• Turning our personal values into your business values
• Using materials and drawings to create a business picture
• What you need to do to become your ideal business
• Pitching: confidence tips, using the right language and perfecting the elevator pitch
• Q&A with experienced makers
• Networking session

These sessions will be hosted by the Crafts Council and Erika Watson MBA MBE.
