Paper Arts - Open Christmas Exhibition

SHOWCASE YOUR ART SOMEWHERE SPECIAL THIS HOLIDAY SEASON WITH OUR CHRISTMAS EXHIBITION

Do you want your artwork to be on display for four-weeks over the Christmas period? We are currently taking in submissions for our Christmas exhibition, ‘100 under a Hundred’!

This year, we will fill our gallery space with 100 pieces from local artists, showing off the breadth of creative talent Bristol has to offer.

The theme of our Christmas exhibition is simple: 100 pieces of framed artworks all priced at £100 or less. That’s it!

From there, it’s up to you what you submit. We invite all of you talented artists, designers, print-makers and doodlers to submit your artwork for the chance to be a part of 100 under a Hundred.

Volunteers Needed for Big Draw Event at Bristol Museum

Bristol Museum The Big Draw: Them Bones!

11am – 3pm

Transform the floor of the museum into a gigantic picture and bring to life the story of the monstrous Sea Dragons. Be inspired by our Dinosaur specimens; prehistoric ichthyosaur and plesiosaur fossils and by the illustrations in the Geology Gallery.

Create your own rattling stories by making skeleton puppets with the help of Children’s Scrapstore, Artrageous with a bit of Funnybones thrown in.

Pick up a trail or a sketching pack and you might even bump into children’s illustrators wandering the galleries to offer help with your drawing.

This is a Big Draw event.

Open Call - RWA 162nd Annual Open Exhibition

Submissions of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, architecture and moving image from unknown, emerging and established artists

The Royal West of England Academy holds an Annual Open Exhibition now in its 162nd year. As the name suggests anyone can enter their work for this mixed discipline show. A selection panel assesses every entry and last year 560 works by 348 artists made it into the final exhibition. All work is for sale and the exhibition attracts art-lovers and art-buyers from far and wide. The exhibition is open to the public from 12 October – 7 December 2014.

Artists are encouraged to submit recent work (produced within the last 3 years) and all works must be for sale, with prices predominantly under £10,000. Each artist can submit a maximum of three works, which must not have been exhibited before at the RWA, and there is a submission fee for each entry.

CAMPAIGN FOR DRAWING - JOHN RUSKIN PRIZE

Campaign For Drawing

The Campaign for Drawing, in collaboration with the Guild of St George, is launching the second year of a new art award, The John Ruskin Prize. The second John Ruskin prize is open to all amateur and professional artists 18 years and over, living and working in the UK. Recording Britain Now invites artists to present fresh, contemporary visions of their urban, rural or social environment.

Drawings, paintings, watercolours, prints, textiles, digital art and mixed media are welcome. Photographs, sculpture, sound installations and film are not eligible.

This is a unique opportunity to join the ranks of earlier well-known commentators on the state of the nation!

First Prize: £1000 and an opportunity to exhibit in the Millennium Gallery Sheffield during the major exhibition originated by the V&A, Recording Britain.

Runners-up (15): Inclusion in Recording Britain NOW, the exhibition of short-listed John Ruskin Prize artists in the Millennium Gallery Sheffield, 28 June – 12 October 2014, partnering the major V&A exhibition, Recording Britain.

This is a unique opportunity to join celebrated visual commentators on the state of the nation, and of nature under threat, from the original wartime recorders such as John Piper and Michael Rothenstein to more recent observers like Richard Long, David Nash, and Laura Oldfield Ford.

Open Call for Bristol Biennial

The Bristol Biennial is building new foundations as an interactive contemporary Arts Festival. The Bristol Biennial is intended as a collaborative project between institutions, groups, associations and individual practitioners within the creative arts sector. Its objective is to create an interactive and international platform to raise the profile of Bristol based emerging artists. By instigating and promoting new collaboration and discussion through an international network, local artists can gain access to new artistic territory.

The theme for 2014, Crossing the Line,gathers a crowd of meaning, to encourage an exchange of ideas, bringing out the best of innovative and interactive work. Using a dynamic programme of spaces and locations in Bristol, artists are asked to consider: place and space, international exchange and the relationship between artist and audience.

The programme is open to proposals from artists working with: Live Art, Performance Art, Music, Visual Arts, Video, Sculpture, Drawing, Animation and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

The Bristol Biennial will take place in various locations in and around the city. The Biennial team will match selected projects to locations, which include re-appropriated existing space, disused sites, creative buildings and public spaces. Artists are also encouraged to suggest locations.

The Festival is presented over 9 days from the 12th-21st of September 2014.

The Open Call runs from the 14th October to the 2nd January 2014.

Successful artist and art group applications will be notified during the first week of December.

Funding

Subject to funding necessary production costs will be provided.
