Open Call - A Structure for Survival CAAPO

Project Concept
The inspiration for this project lies in a Wales, UK and Worldwide trend of economic austerity and political unrest. In times of domestic hardship and enforced economic migration, people become separated into groups. This disparateness creates pockets of exclusion – certain ethnic, social and economic groups are left stranded – enhancing fragmentation within society. People are united and distinguished by their similarities. On these grounds, the battle for survival is fought.
Application
This is an open invitation to submit a proposal to make a new piece of work in or around Cardiff (S Wales, UK). The work should have some kind of relevance to its locality: However, the proposal needn’t be site or geographically specific. We expect the selected artist/s to spend a period of time in S Wales (at least 5 days) conducting research/making the work. This period can run on successive days or can be arranged over the duration of the commission timeline (March 10th– June 1st 2014).
Applications should include a short artists statement (max 200 words), a written proposal outlining the artist’s approach to the commission and the project concept (500 words max), a CV and some visual documentation of their practice (10 images max). Please email to brychan.tudor@googlemail.com or transfer via Dropbox
CAAPO is particularly interested in artists working with 3D intervention, sculpture, performance and/or video – with a further preference shown to artists working in the public realm.
All applications must be received by 5pm, Friday 21st February 2014.
