“I Will Always Have You” Maker Residency
We are seeking established makers for 3-month residency. The makers will be working on the project “I Will Always Have You”, collaborating with local residents to explore, design and develop a series of small-batch digitally fabricated “objects of desire” inspired by the rich tattoo culture of Knowle West. They will be able to develop their knowledge and practice using digital manufacturing processes such as 3D printers, CNC machines and laser cutters in a mini-digital manufacturing hub at KWMC and through access to the FabLab at the University of the West of England. We are particularly interested in makers with the following experience: -Recognition in a particular craft discipline relevant to the scope and aims of the project; -Experience of digital manufacturing processes; -Socially-engaged practices; -Product development, marketing and sales knowledge; -Interest in developing sustainable enterprises. “In the early hours of Monday, 5th June 1944, a procession of 81 landing crafts and launches made its careful way out of Poole Harbour. Once in the Bay the craft moved into 4 columns, each of the larger vessels taking one of the smaller craft in tow. A fresh south-westerly wind roughened the dark sea. Headed by 6 motor gun boats, the 4 long columns street out into the Channel. Assault Convoy 02A had left its base for Omaha Beach in Normandy.”

Derek Beamish and Ian Andrews, ‘D-Day Poole’

The Borough of Poole Museum and Arts Services are inviting applications from artists who are seeking to develop their practice through working in a heritage environment and collaborating with multigenerational communities. We wish to commission an artist to devise and deliver a project that will engage Poole residents and visitors in commemorating Poole’s vital part in the development of amphibious warfare and combined operations in World War II and its specific role in D-Day, as well as exploring the wider emotional themes of departure and loss associated with conflict.

The residency will take place at Poole Museum for 12 days during June 2014. The project needs to be researched and developed in May 2014 followed by delivery throughout the residency in June 2014.

The artist can choose to work in any media and will need to ensure that, even if temporary or conceptual in nature, the project work is documented throughout and can be publically displayed in a museum setting.

Choreographer and Dancer Residency, Halsway Manor

Stepping Out is our residency programme to support young choreographers and dancers working in any dance genre to develop their work and explore folk music and dance as part of their practice. 

The residency is open to choreographers and dancers age 18 - 25 and will take place at Halsway Manor, a national centre for the folk arts near Crowcombe in Somerset. Throughout the residency choreographers and dancers will explore themes of war and injustice and create material for a scratch performance at the Hothouse festival on 19th April 2014. They will be supported by folk dance artist Kerry Fletcher and contemporary dance artist Clare Parker. 

The residency will run in parallel to the Hothouse programme for young musicians and there will be opportunities for collaboration. 

Accommodation and catering are provided for successful applicants.
