Z Twist Textile Residency Opportunity

'Z Twist' Textile Residency Opportunity
'Z Twist' is a project of three short residencies for mid-career textile practitioners, designed to promote collaborative working between individual makers, business, education and heritage.
Somerset Art Works working in partnership with Stroud International Textiles, Somerset College and Somerset Heritage Service are looking to recruit three designer/makers for textile residencies. Running concurrently over a period of 3 months January- March 2014, the residencies will place a designer/maker within a traditional textile setting and ask them to explore the specific craft materials, techniques and processes associated with that context. Based upon this research they will create a small body of experimental textile work and associated interpretation and documentation.
Central to the residencies will be a commitment to learning and sharing.  As well as creating their own piece of work in response to their residency, each of the resident makers will work with students from the Fashion, Textiles & Surface Design degree course at Somerset College and/or another educational group (e.g. school, a sixth form college, adult or further education course).
The residencies will culminate in:
  • An showcase of the work produced by the makers at SIT/SELECT in April/May 2014
  • Followed by an exhibition of makers and college participants at White Cube Gallery, Somerset College in July 2014 alongside a seminar bringing together all the outcomes of 'Make, Create, Cultivate', July 2014.
The residency fee for each designer/maker: £4,700 inclusive of VAT
 Deadline for applications4pm on 6th November 2013
