Performance Pianist and Musical Director - Wattle & Daub

Deadline for applications: Mon 6 April, 6pm

Fee: Musician’s Union Rates

Who we are:
Wattle & Daub is a Bristol-based puppetry and visual theatre company comprised of Co-Artistic Directors Laura Purcell Gates and Tobi Poster. We make work for adults that explores untold stories using puppetry, live music, and grotesque, beautiful imagery. Wattle & Daub is an Associate Artist at Tobacco Factory Theatres.
Who we are looking for:
Wattle & Daub are looking for someone to fulfil the role of performance pianist and musical director to work with them on their new show The Depraved Appetite of Tarrare the Freak, a small-mid scale chamber opera for puppets that will be touring the UK from autumn 2015.
The ideal person will be of an exceptional playing standard and have previous experience of musical directing and performing as part of an ensemble in live performance.
The candidate should be confident in ensuring the musical style is upheld and that the other musical elements fit together to create a rounded musical score.

The company is quite a way along with the development of the piece, and will be employing a rehearsal pianist for the final development of the show, bringing in the performance pianist in the final week of rehearsals. The show already has a very clear aesthetic and musical style.
This short trailer will give you an idea of the musical style.
The Depraved Appetite of Tarrare the Freak will be fully developed in summer 2015 and premiere at the 2015 Bristol Festival of Puppetry in late August/early September 2015, followed by performances at Suspense in October 2015 (both festivals confirmed). It will tour in late spring 2016.
W&D’s musical influences include Stephen Sondheim, Benjamin Britten and Leonard Bernstein.
