The Holburne Museum
Director
Location: Bath
Salary: Highly attractive, commensurate with the scale and responsibilities of the role
The Holburne Museum in Bath, nationally recognised as one of the finest independent fine and decorative art museums in the country, is seeking to appoint a new Director from summer 2014.
Re-opened three years ago following a major £11.2m capital project which has doubled the exhibition and public space of the museum’s magnificent Palladian style Georgian building, the museum houses a collection of some 9,000 objects, including one of the finest collections of British 18thcentury portrait paintings outside London. A university museum, with a busy programme of historic and contemporary exhibitions, a strong learning, education and outreach programme and well-attended music events, this is a museum attracting national and international attention for the quality of its offering to a diverse audience averaging 120k visitors a year.
In the appointment of a new Director to lead this gem of a museum, the Trustees are looking for an exceptional individual who can build on all that has been achieved in the last decade in developing the profile and reputation of the museum, its collection and programming and take it to the next stage.
To qualify for this role, you will require:
- Excellent artistic and operational leadership;
- A keen enthusiasm for the opportunity which outreach, academic partnerships and diverse audience engagement can bring;
- Appropriate credentials and/or experience in both historic and contemporary art;
- A love of the impact which a small museum with limited resources but with big ambition can have on the wider community at all levels.
If you feel you have the ambition, the creative vision, the energy and ability to continue the historic journey of Bath’s first public art gallery, please contact: Mary Deegan of Liz Amos Associates on +44 (0)20 7884 9201 or at mary.deegan@lizamosassociates.com who will send you an application pack.
More information is also available at www.holburne.org or www.lizamosassociates.com
