Poetry Competition

Likenessesattempts to bridge the gap between person and portrait, capturing intimate, stolen moments. Aronson has created images 'directly stencilled off the real' as Susan Sontag writes in 'On Photography'.
This is an open competition, run by Bristol Poetry Institute. Poems can take as their theme one of the exhibits in theLikenessesshow, or be a response to an existing published photograph of a poet or other literary figure (as long as the image can be submitted alongside the poem).
Poems should be sent directly to Sam Thomas at Bristol University: st1642@bristol.ac.uk
They will be forwarded anonymously to the three judges (William Wooten, David Punter and Rachael Boast).
The competition is open from February 8 and the deadline is Friday March 14.
The winner and runner up will receive a cash prize of £50 and £30 respectively, and a copy of the bookLikenesses.
An award ceremony will take place in the gallery on the penultimate day of the show, Wednesday March 19th, 6.30-7.30pm.
