Public Art Commission

Salisbury Arts Centre is seeking to commission one or more artists to design and contribute to the production of four large-scale heritage panels to be installed in the prestigious location of the Market Square in Salisbury city centre. This is an exciting and rare opportunity to create large scale sculptural public art in a prominent international tourist site.
Each of the four panels will focus on a particular aspect of Salisbury’s heritage and will be fabricated in metalwork featuring other artistic elements made from robust materials. The metalwork will be produced by a local forge, working up designs devised in partnership with the appointed designer for the overall scheme and the project manager, with the additional material elements produced by the appointed artist(s) and including some contributions from community workshops.
We are seeking a designer who will create the look and feel of the overall scheme, including the practical aspects of its production, and/or you may additionally bid to design and construct the individual details of each panel. Each finished panel must correspond to the overall design scheme but will vary in subject, heritage information and construction materials.
The artist producing each panel will be required to coordinate 4 participatory workshops with local people and heritage specialists in order to develop the heritage content and contribute to the artwork.
The designer’s fee for the overall design scheme is £750.
The fee for the design, construction and associated workshops of the individual elements of each panel is £940 per panel.
Alternatively, a single fee for ONE artist to design, construct and lead workshops for the whole scheme (excluding production of the metalwork) is £4,510.
There is a materials budget of £3,500 available to support this commission.
